Who Can Become an Odd Fellow in Atlantic Canada

In Atlantic Canada, membership in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is open to both men and women who are ready to embrace the values of Friendship, Love, and Truth while serving their communities.

To join, you must meet these simple but meaningful requirements:

1.     Legal Age – You must be 16 years or older.

2.     Belief in a Supreme Being – Odd Fellowship is non-sectarian and welcomes people of all faiths, as long as you hold a belief in a higher power.

3.     Good Moral Character – Members are expected to live with honesty, integrity, and respect for others, reflecting the principles of the Order.

How to Petition for Membership in the Odd Fellows

Joining the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is a meaningful step toward personal growth, fellowship, and community service. Here’s how you can begin your journey:

1. Visit a Local Lodge

The best way to start is by in your area.

  • Meet with members, learn about their activities, and experience the spirit of Odd Fellowship firsthand.

  • If you feel a connection, you can request a petition for membership.

2. If There Is No Lodge Nearby

If there isn’t an established lodge in your community, you can start the process of forming one.

  • Gather five (5) current Odd Fellows who hold the Third Degree to help establish a new lodge, or

  • Bring together fifteen (15) new petitioners who share a desire to form a lodge in your area.

The Grand Lodge will provide guidance and support to help you organize, train, and grow your group into a fully chartered lodge.
